I make it a rule not to take bookings from the middle of December through the beginning of March just because I’ve had to cancel too many programs over the year because of Midwest winter. If you wonder why I give you this March which is after what I consider the danger zone.
My first program in Grundy County was on picture perfect weather. Then a storm front moved through. Unfortunately there not only has to be good weather where I’m presenting, but also where I live and in-between. Friday an ice storm cancelled both Winterset programs. Urbandale was having OK weather, Solon was having OK weather, and a snow storm was sitting over I-80 right where I needed to drive. We only got as far as Williamsburg where they already had 2 inches on the ground. We tried to wait it out hoping it would get better. After an hour we tried again and went by 11 cars in the ditch between Williamsburg and Victor. There was no way we could get there on time at the speed we needed to travel so we ended up cancelling there too.
The Winterset programs are rescheduled:
- Winterset Public Library – Winterset, Iowa – June 13, 2018
2:30 pm – In the Classroom With Laura
6:30 pm – In the Kitchen With Laura (1930s version)
Urbandale has decided to push back the program to next year.
And this is why I block out programs for those months. 🙂
