Iowa Heritage Digital Collection

Today I’m posting with permission a slightly edited version of a post from IowaLib. I think all people interested in Iowa history or history in general will want to take a look. Whether you are looking for Mildred Wirt Benson (author of Nancy Drew)
http://www.iowaheritage.org/items/browse?search=%22Mildred+Wirt+Benson%22&submit_search=Search+All

or brilliant cartoonist Ding Darling you might be surprised by what you find.

Plus all sorts of interesting places and events. Take some time to poke around and discover some of Iowa’s treasures. – SSU

Iowa Library Services’s Iowa Heritage Digital Collection (IHDC) http://www.iowaheritage.org/  has migrated to new software and has a new look. It is now even easier to participate! If your library has a collection of materials that you have been hoping to digitize and put on the internet, consider adding it to IHDC. Find out how by going to the website and clicking on the “For Depositors” tab.

In IHDC you will find historic postcards and photos from Iowa towns, biographies and photos of famous Iowans, cartoons by “Ding” Darling and Brian Duffy, and a lot more.

Find a collection by selecting a subject or by clicking on “Browse Collections”. To browse through a collection, click on its title, click on an item, and use the “Previous Item” and “Next Item” buttons. With the “Search All” box you can search over 50 collections from 18 different Iowa institutions containing more than 37,000 items. Or use “Advanced Search” and limit your search to just one collection.

Click on “Image Help” for instructions on enlarging the images.

P.S. The photo is a family one not in their connection, but I thought a nice bit of Iowa history to include. -SSU
