Vinton Update July 2013

Blind School with Temporary Roof
Blind School with Temporary Roof

As I reported last year, Vinton has now organized a society dedicated to Mary Ingalls and the preservation or and tourism to the Iowa School for the Blind and Sight Saving School.

They have since developed their own website:

And Facebook page:

On their website they say “We are working on the development of a Mary Ingalls Pageant to be held on the Braille School grounds in July 2013.” I hadn’t heard anything about this so I checked in with them. What I learned is good news/bad news. The good news is that the roof repairs are underway and the temporary black plastic roof is being replaced. The bad news is that repairs will probably take the rest of the year and the estimated construction completion date isn’t until December 2013. consequently plans for both some sort of Mary pageant like event and the initial meeting of the Society itself are both on hold Nothing will probably happen on either project until after the first of the year at the earliest.. They ARE planning to give Mary tours on July 16, August 5, and September 23, but where all you can see and go might be effected by the construction.

Baring in mind the limitations, if you’d be interested in a Mary tour at another time or have a question for them, contact:  Justin Ruegg at 319-472-5221, Ext. 1226 or  or Pat Barr at 319-472-5221, Ext. 1110 or
