New Issue of Newsletter Out
It’s got to be a great issue of the Walnut Grove Friends of the Museum Newsletter (Spring/Summer 2013) when it mentions me by name more than once. OK, there is a lot of other great stuff in it too. Cover articles are on the late spring snow at the museum, a great feature on the newly acquired Garth Williams illustrations and their display (I can’t wait to see it in person). Another story was on the new storyboards in the Laura Room. The article includes credits were additional information came from including yours truly, but really it is an impressive list and I encourage you to read this article if nothing else. There is a tribute to Gloria Jacobs who served on the board from 1986-2009 and recently passed away. For a long time the air castle, like the one Alice makes in Farmer boy, has been part of the Walnut Grove’s display since my first visit. It was made by Helen Haney of Tracy, Minnesota who made it and donated it in the 1980s. Her daughters Sharlene Haney Neal and Kay Haney Radke were trying to recapture the skill and wanted a photo of their mother’s.
New Temporary Exhibit Foodways Based
Walnut Grove has started a temporary exhibit. The exhibit features kitchen tools. They have been soliciting cookie recipes from locals and Laura fans around the country. They also have a collection of Laura Ingalls Wilder gingerbread recipe cards, collected by yours truly. The final articles include photos of the gift shop decked out for Halloween (staff got very creative) and an article on the special presentations they put on in November as part of a 5 site meeting that was also open to the public. On the back page are images of the new trivets, including one of Jack, that I think I’m going to need for my collection.
